Keelboat Options

RGYC have purchased two J24  (24 feet) type training

keel-boats that give a great introduction to sailing! Learning to sail on a smaller keel-boat is a good way to learn the ropes of sailing and understand the fundamentals in a safe environment.

Keel-boat experience

Sometimes people like to test/have a try at something before fully committing to enrolling into a course. if this sounds like your or you are just wanting to get out on a boat in general then this is a great option. RGYC are proud to offer a 2 hour sailing experience with an Australian Sailing qualified instructor, who can take you over the basics of what is covered in a learn to sail course here at RGYC and point you in the right direction on the pathways we offer.

Cost $100

Twilight guest crew/sailing experience

Throughout the summer season RGYC are pleased to be able to offer anyone in the community a chance to be guest on a boat and participate in a club twilight race under the guidance of a skipper/Club member who has kindly offered a free spot on their boat for the evening. Their is no cost at all associated with this experience; however you must register for a free day pass via the front desk for safety and insurance reasons.

This is a great way to link in with skippers and other club members if you are interested in seeing what a social sail/racing experience is like on a keelboat or finding an ongoing crew position.

There are meals and drinks available in the cafe and bar after the race, we here at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club like to provide a welcoming, social and friendly environment for all.

If there is a specific course you are interest in, please contact the RGYC office via info@rgyc.com.au, as we may be able to arrange one if there are at least 3 people interested. Anyone with a group/family consisting of 4 or more people wanting to complete the same course are welcome to contact the office as we may be able to arrange a date to suit the group if an instructor is available and you do not wish to wait until the next course.

Dinghy Options

This course is great if you want to learn the basics of sailing or improve your existing skills as it is a smaller boat. You get the full experience from launching the boat, cursing the bay, learning specific safety skills and taking charge of the boat yourself.
