Royal Geelong Yacht Club conduct multiple weekly events from October through to April and during the winter months, yacht races are run once a month. Volunteers are always required to assist in running these events.
Would you prefer to be involved in one or more of our big events?
Geelong Week – This is Australia's largest sailing event! First held in 1844 and officially established in 1859, and is also one of the nation's oldest sporting events. 400 yachts and 6000 crew are all racing together on Corio Bay held annually over the Australia Day long weekend each January. The Royal Geelong Yacht Club is the centre of action both day and night.
We need volunteers to do numerous things to ensure that these events run smoothly. All the on-water activities outlined above need people to run them. On-shore activities range from radio room operations to providing tourist information, assisting with catering and driving water taxis.
Wooden Boat Festival – This event is growing quickly and runs again in March 2014. It requires a team of people to assist with berthing visiting boats, catering, information, race management and numerous other activities.
Something Special
Royal Geelong Yacht Club also hosts a Sailability program during the week in the warmer months. This program provides sailing for people with various disabilities. You can be an on-shore helper or be the skipper of a small sailing dinghy designed especially for this purpose. Each boat takes a skipper and one other person.
